Lessons from Tafseer class of Dr Faadil Al Imam حفظه الله ورعاه (Ramadan day 4)

Today’s Tafseer started with third Aayah of Suratu Yuusuuf which serves as door to the story about to be narrated in the Suurah

It was mentioned yesterday that Qur’an enhances brain today it is established that stories are one of tools used in Qur’an to sharpen brains

It is not proper to address oneself with “we”. This peculiar to Allâh which means His mighty in His essence and actions.

All stories in Qur’an are excellent and perfect with no defect

Story has to be coherent with others like chain that the beginning, middle and end must be related.

Vocabularies for قصة in Qur’an ; نبأ as contained in Suratul Qamar:4

Suratul Huud : 100 here Allâh combines both the two synonyms نبأ and قصة

The appropriate Preposition for قص is على and this in line with Qur’an usage.

Attributes of Allaah have to be based with evidence either from Qur’an and Sunnah. It is wrong to attribute with what has no basis. We don’t have write to coin out names from His attributes. For instance Allâh mentioned in this verse that he narrated stories therefore it is not proper to called Allaah storyteller.

Another attribute mentioned in Qur’an that Allâh plans but it is wrong to describe Him as town planner!
Allâh attributed himself with talking but it is wrong to call Him Talkative.

The stories contained in Qur’an and Sunnah are excellent.
Stories are rated base on two factors : authenticity and reality and all these factors are there in all stories contained in Qur’an and Sunnah

Stories in Qur’an are divided into three:

  1. Stories of Prophets
  2. Stories of the people of the past both pious and evil people eg stories of Fir’awn, Qaaruun, Maryam
  3. Stories of events that occurred during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم like stories of battle of Uhud,

Stories revealed to the Prophet were two; those mentioned in Qur’an like the one we are about to listen to in the Suurah and like that popular one that is known by everyone that is the story of people of elephant. Second stories were those revealed to him via Sunnah as we have many in books of hadith

Other stories which can still categorised under the three above like the story of Prophet Ibrahim where Allâh asked him to take 4 birds

We still have stories of animals among themselves like the one mentioned in Nahl about ants

Stories between non living things and human beings like stories of Musaa, his clothes, staff and rock that stole his clothes as mentioned in Saheehul Bukhari.

ثوبي حجر ثوبي حجر
Statement being mentioned by Muusaa when he was chasing his clothes.

When one is angry it takes away one’s mind of thinking

Other stories beside those mentioned in Qur’an and Sunnah are either good or bad stories.

Stories are attributed to be bad based on its origin like different stories of tortoise.
Home videos also come under bad stories. Stories may have good origin but its implications are evil like a repented armed robber narrating stories to people how he used to operate

Ignorance is more dangerous than forgetfulness

That why Kuffaar, kufr, shirk and mushrikuun are being referred with جهل

Lessons from the Tafseer of Dr Faadil

Lessons from Dr Faadil Al Imam Tafseer today

Dr Faadil Al Imam حفظه الله ورعاه methodology of Tafseer is unique as many others scholars of Sunnah in Southwest.
His Tafseer is always interactive.

It is not allowed to say someone reveals Qur’an, this act is peculiar to Allâh. So the popular saying that in Yorùbá language “aṣọ Qur’an ká lẹ” to mean reading whole Qur’an is not permissible

Those Alfa reading Qur’an for jala I purposes is evil in two ways. Evil of statement and action.
Evil of action in the sense:
Reading the Qur’an in portions
Reading it by different people at once and this is against teaching of Islam where Allâh asked us to listen to Qur’an when it is being recited

Different between أنزل and نزّل is that former means that Qur’an was revealed at once while latter means it was revealed little by little. نزّل usage is specific to Qur’an as other heavenly revealed books were revealed at once thus they are أنزل

It is erroneous to say aṣọ Qur’an kalẹ as common with people of bid’ah Alfas. Same to those reading it so no one can sọ Qur’an ká lẹ

Both ké and ká of kewu are correct against the popular saying that we ké kewu not ká kewu

Qur’an learning enhances brain

Learning Qur’an and religious knowledge should be priorities of all Muslims

It is better to address Arabic as
Language of Qur’an
Language of Muslim
Language of Islam
By this many people hearts will be attracted to learn it

You can’t reach 10% of Islam with learning recitation of Qur’an. It is never late to learn Qur’an recitation and its meanings.

You can’t recite Qur’an in another language besides Arabic.
