QA389: Yaa Sheikh, May Allah have mercy on you sir. Pls what is the rulings on castration of animals?

AsSalaamu alaikum wa RahmotuLlah

Yaa Sheikh, May Allah have mercy on you sir.
Pls what is the rulings on castration of animals?

Answer

Wa alaykum as-salaamu wa rahmatullahi wa barakātuhu.

Praise be to Allah; may the blessing and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah.

To proceed:

Scholars are agreed that it is not permissible for a human being to castrate himself or be castrated as the Prophet, sallaa Allahu alayhi wa sallama, forbade that as established in the hadith of Abdullah bn Umar and some other companions, may Allah be pleased with them all.
As for the castration of animals, the scholars differed on its permissibility. Some are of the opinion that it is permissible if done in a professional way that won’t cause the animal much pain. Their argument is based on the fact that the Messenger of Allah, sallaa Allahu alayhi wa sallama, slaughtered two castrated rams with white and black colour as sacrificial animals as contained in Sunan Ibn Maajah.

These scholars also argue that castration makes its meat more delicious.

On the other hand, some scholars argued that castration of animal is not permissible as it constitutes punishing the animals; more so, the Prophet, sallaa Allahu alayhi wa sallama, forbade إخصاء الخيل والبهائم ( the castration of horses and the beasts) as contained in the Musnad of al-Imam Ahmad and some other books.

This hadith, however, is said to be weak by some of those scholars who permitted it.
Some took it to be makroo’ ( detested) based on this hadith.
Sumarrily, it is permissible if there is a genuine reason for it.

QA390: Sir what is islamic position on preaching in public space the way the Christians do like in the bus

Sir what is islamic position on preaching in public space the way the Christians do like in the bus. is it not like a disturbance to people who don’t want to listen?

Answer

Praise be to Allah; may the blessing and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah.

To proceed:

The basis is that one can and should preach and admonish people whenever there is opportunity to do such. Allah says,
“فذكر إن نفعت الذكرى”
(So remind, [ the people] whenever the reminder benefits).

As for reminding and admonishing the people whenever one finds oneself in a public bus or something similar, this isn’t a good thing particularly when one is geared towards that by the intention to imitate or counter the Christian preachers doing that.

QA 384: How Can We Welcome the New Hijri Year

How can we welcome the new Hijri year in Islam, can we wish ourselves happy hijrah celebration or can we fix special program to commemorate this period?

Praise be to Allah; may the blessing and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah.

To proceed:

The truth of the matter is that the Hijri calender was not introduced by al- khaleefah Umar and the other companions so as to be celebrated as an ‘eid. Rather it was used as a way of calculating and dating and knowing other events contrary to what used to be operational wherein they would use different happenings such “the Year of Elephants” ” the Day of Bu’aath” etc to date other events.
Hence, celebrating the hijrah of the Prophet, sallaa Allahu alayhi wa sallama, is an innovation in the deen which was never practised by the companions, may Allah be pleased with them all. And it is not hidden that we only have two ‘eids in Islam namely, eid al-Fitr and ‘eid al-Ad-haa as said by the Messenger of Allah, sallaa Allahu alayhi wa sallama, in a hadith reported by Abu Daawud.
Hence, greeting people for a new hijra year is strange and it was never practised by the Righteous Predecessors and it should be avoided. And this is the favoured opinion of most of the senior scholars of Sunnah in our time.
Wallahu A’lam.
