AN OPEN LETTER TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRMAN, EXECUTIVE MEMBERS AND MEMBERS OF THE MUSLIM LAWYERS’ ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (MULAN) ILORIN CHAPTER ON THE ALLEDGED CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, ABDUCTION, TRAFFICKING IN WOMEN, SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF THE DUO OF BASHIRAT YUNUS TAIYE AND 1 ORS FOR USING THE HIJAB.
I begin with the name of Allah, the MASTER of the day of Judgement. May the peace and choicest blessings of Allah be upon our Noble Prophet Muhammad (sollalohu alayhi wasallam) his household, his companions and those that follow his footsteps till the day of recompense.
Distinguished Chairman and members of the Ilorin branch of MULAN, I write this open letter to you with sadness in my heart.
I write as a concerned Muslim Lawyer about the case of our beloved sisters (as aforementioned) who were ill treated and denied their Fundamental and God given Rights by some criminals.
It is very pathetic, sardonic and dishonorable that this dastardly act was reported to have been perpetrated by some miscreants in the ancient city of Ilorin Afonja (Ilu Awon Alfa), where the Understanding of the basic principles of Islam is presumed to be known to all and sundry particularly the usage of the Hijab for our beloved Muslim Sisters whose chasity and honour is never complete without the Hijab.
The viral news and video of the ill-treatment of these sisters was brought to my attention on the 25th day of June 2020 and 4th day of July 2020 respectively. I cried my eyes out after watching the viral video of our dear sister, sister Bashirat Yunus Taiye where she narrated in detail the fact of the matter and her ordeal in the hands of these criminals.
Distinguished Chairman and members of the Ilorin branch of MULAN, this is a clarion call to serve Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala. We MUST NOT fold our arms and allow these sisters to suffer in vain and be denied their Fundamental and God given Rights.
I was briefed that the Lawyers handling this matter are not up to five (5) and I will NOT WANT TO BELIEVE that MULAN (Ilorin Chapter) have taken NO steps in arresting the situation.
A Non Governmental Organization, Ad-Deenu Naseehah is currently taking charge of the matter to wit:
- Paying for the services of the Legal Practitioners engaged to carry out the task;
- Providing financial and moral supports for the sisters.
I IMPLORE the Leadership of MULAN (ILORIN CHAPTER) to rise up to this challenge and collaborate with the above named NGO and ensure that JUSTICE IS NOT ONLY PRONOUNCED, BUT MUST BE SEEN TO HAVE BEEN DONE.
In Conclusion, Permit me to remind you of Qur’an 4:135 where Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala says:
O YE WHO BELIEVE, BE MAINTAINERS OF JUSTICE, BEARERS OF WITNESS FOR ALLAH, EVEN THOUGH IT BE AGAINST YOUR OWNSELVES.
May Allah never deny us of the rewards.
