Between Habeeb of Markaz Agege and Taaha Husein

Praise be to Allah the Lord of the world; may the blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, his household and companions all together.

To proceed:
It is with pity and sadness I am writing this piece; I pity the innocent souls that will go astray having listened to this mudeer of Markaz who is wallowing in compound ignorance and destructive vainglory; I feel sad as I see a nonentity trying to reduce the status of the scholars of Sunnah on top of whom are some noble companions such as Abu Hurairah, Mu’aawiyah bn Abi Sufyan et al; this he does by ridiculing them, saying they falsely ascribed things to the Messenger of Allah ( sallallahu alayhi wa sallama) and they reported things that are not intellectually and scientifically acceptable.

This self important man claims he believes strongly in the Quran; this, however,to us is a mere claim which is contradicted by his actions and speeches.
It is incontrovertible that the Quran was revealed to the Prophet ( sallallahu alayhi wa sallama) so that he can explain it to us as Allah said:
(وَأَنزَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ ٱلذِّكۡرَ لِتُبَیِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ) [44 Surat an-Nahl verse]

” And we have revealed the Dhikr to you so that you can explain to the people what has been sent down to them and so that they can ponder”

The question is,where are the explanations of the Quran by the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallama) ?
The pious predecessors unanimously believed the explanations of the Quran by the Prophet ) sallallahu alayhi wa sallama( are the authentic ahadith which were reported from the reliable companions by reliable predecessors who enjoyed retentive memories down to the collectors of those ahadith with their chains of transmitters,a quality that is missing in the works of even Herodotus, the so called ” father of history “. Yet, these people who have been carried away by the Western civilisation would readily take hook line and sinker whatever comes from the west without subjecting it to the so called scrutiny they claim they are applying to the ahadith of the Prophet ( sallallahu alayhi wa sallama) relying on their overgrown and westernized intellects disregarding the way of the pious predecessors in identifying weak reports and authentic ones.
Relying on intellect majorly in the interpretation of the Quran and in knowing what to take and reject is what led Taaha Husein, the so called ” Deen of the Arabic Literature” to conclude that even the story of Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail ( alayhimas-salaat was-salam) narrated by Allah in the Quran are not authentic as both men never existed in history.

Taaha Husein said in his book ” Fi ash-shi’r al-Jaahili:

للتوراة أن تحدثنا عن إبراهيم وإسماعيل ، وللقرآن أن يحدثنا عنهما أيضا ، ولكن ورود هذين الاسمين في التوراة والقرآن لا يكفي لإثبات وجودهما التاريخي فضلا عن هذه القصة التي تحدثنا بهجرة إسماعيل بن إبراهيم إلى مكة ونشأة العرب المستعربة
ونحن مضطرون إلى أن نرى هذه القصة نوعا من الحيلة في إثبات الصلة بين اليهود والعرب من جهة وبين الإسلام واليهودية والقرآن والتوراة من جهة أخرى

Meaning:

Torah can tell us about Ibrahim and Ismaeel. The Qur’an can also tell us about them [ both] .
However, that these two names are mentioned in Torah and Qur’an is not enough to establish the historical existence of them both not to talk of this story that tells us about the emigration of Ismaeel bn Ibrahim to Makkah and the emergence of al-Arab al-Musta’ribah the Arabs from non -Arab origin who settled in Makka ( i.e the children of Ismaeel).
We shall be compelled to consider this story a kind of trick to establish a kind of relationship between the Jews and Arabs on the one hand, and between Islam and Judaism, Qur’an and Torah on the other hand.”

Taaha Husein was reported to have said in front of his students in a class:

ليس القرآن إلا كتاباً ككل الكتب الخاضعة للنقد, فيجب أن يجرى عليه ما يجرى عليها, والعلم يحتم عليكم أن تصرفوا النظر نهائياً عن قداسته التي تتصورونها, وأن تعتبروه كتاباً عادياً فتقولوا فيه كلمتكم, ويجب أن يختص كل واحد منكم بنقد شيء من هذا الكتاب, ويبين ما يأخذه عليه

Meaning:

” The Qur’an is just like all other books subject to criticism. So it must be made to pass through what they [ those books] pass through. Science makes it binding on you to disregard the sacredness you imagine in it and that you consider it as an ordinary book so that you can say your views about it.
It is on every one of you to personally criticise something of this book and also explain whatever observation he has about it.”

Undoubtedly Habeeb of Markaz has been affected by the Shia beliefs, the liberals, the rationalists et al. So don’t be suprised when he graduates from attacking the ahadith and their reporters and collectors to attacking the Quran as Taaha Husein finally did because he is apparently and gradually moving towards that direction.

Allah’s aid is sought.
